Israel’s Basilica of Transfiguration safe after forest fire on Tabor aleteia.org
A forest fire on Mt. Tabor in northern Israel came perilously close to the Basilica of the Transfiguration, but firefighters managed to keep the fire at bay.
The fire began Saturday, possibly by accident by someone from a nearby village. Franciscan Fr. Ricardo Bustos, superior of the community of friars at the basilica, said it has not rained in months, so the conditions are extremely dry and hot.
