On October 8, members of India’s counterterrorism task force arrested 83-year-old Jesuit priest Fr. Stan Swamy for allegedly having ties to Maoist rebels. Fr. Swamy, who denies the allegations, has worked for the rights of marginalized communities in rural India for more than 50 years. Human rights activists around the world have come to his defense and demanded his release from prison.
